Drought Breaker

After a break of 35 years it took the extraordinary Festival of Sporting Cars team to put on a red-blooded Easter Bathurst car race meeting. It was a drought breaker in every way, including heavy rain during the compulsory “masters sessions” on Good Friday.  

A full on race meeting at the Mountain was the impossible dream of Australian historic and club level motor sport. Many capable and passionate enthusiasts have driven the road to Bathurst in the intervening years, met with the local Council, talked it through with CAMS. So tantalising has the possibility been that even leading up to the Festival of Sporting Cars triumph it was hard to believe it would really happen.

With a five year deal and an option for five more this is a long term commitment and a lot was riding on the first event. Happily it was the huge success everyone was hoping for. Inevitably there were things that can be improved on next time but the Bathurst electricity was well and truly in the air and there was fabulous racing right through the mammoth fields. Take my advice, put Easter 2009 in your diary now.
